Privacy Policy

Rulr is designed with privacy in mind. Your Rules and the data they process are handled locally by default, and Rulr does not require an account to use the app.

This Privacy Policy explains what information may be processed when you use the Rulr app or website, how that information is used, and the third-party services involved.

1. Local Processing

Rulr is a Mac automation app that lets you create Rules made up of triggers, conditions, and actions.

Your Rules and the data they work with are generally processed locally on your Mac. Rulr does not upload your automation data to Rulr’s servers simply because a Rule accesses or processes it.

Rulr does not intentionally send the contents of your Rules, selected text, clipboard, files, screen or window content, browser content, scripts, or other personal content processed by your automations to Rulr for analytics or tracking.

Some Rules or features may access the internet or interact with third-party apps, websites, scripts, or services when you explicitly configure or use them to do so. Data sent to or processed by those third parties may be subject to their own privacy policies and terms.

2. System Permissions

Rulr may require certain macOS permissions to perform the automations you create. These permissions are requested only when needed for features or Rules that depend on them.

Accessibility — allows Rulr to interact with applications, windows, user interface elements, selected text, keyboard and mouse input, and other accessibility-controlled parts of macOS. This is used for features such as window management, retrieving selected text, simulated input, and certain application interactions.

Screen Recording — allows Rulr to access visible screen and window content when required by features such as screen or window capture, OCR, retrieving visual content, color detection, and other screen-based automations. Screen and window content accessed through this permission is processed locally on your Mac and is not uploaded to Rulr.

Automation / Apple Events — allows Rulr to communicate with and control supported applications when a Rule requires it. This may be used by features that interact with other Mac apps, AppleScript, browsers, or other macOS automation capabilities.

Depending on the Rules and features you use, Rulr may also request access to files, folders, notifications, or other macOS capabilities required to perform the actions you configure.

These permissions can provide Rulr with access to sensitive information on your Mac. Rulr uses that access only to perform the features and automations you request. Rulr does not upload this content to Rulr’s servers or retain it as part of Rulr’s analytics, diagnostics, or other remote data collection.

Processing performed through these permissions takes place locally on your Mac unless you explicitly configure or use a feature that sends data to a third-party or online service.

You can review or revoke Rulr’s permissions at any time in macOS System Settings. Rules that depend on a revoked permission may stop working.

3. App Analytics and Diagnostics

Rulr uses limited analytics and diagnostic services to understand general product usage, identify problems, and improve the app.

Rulr currently uses:

Mixpanel for product analytics, such as understanding which features are used and general patterns of app usage.
Bugsnag for crash reports and diagnostic information that helps identify and fix errors.

Analytics and diagnostic information may include technical information such as the Rulr version, macOS version, device or installation identifiers, feature usage, crash information, and related diagnostic metadata.

Rulr does not intentionally include the contents of your Rules, selected text, clipboard, files, screen or window content, browser content, scripts, or other personal content processed by your automations in analytics or diagnostic events.

Mixpanel and Bugsnag require an internet connection to receive this information. Information processed by these services is also subject to their respective privacy policies.

4. Website Analytics and Cookies

The Rulr website uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the website and to improve its content and experience.

Google Analytics may process information such as page visits, interactions, approximate location, browser and device information, and identifiers used to distinguish visits or sessions.

The Rulr website may also use cookies or local browser storage for analytics and basic website functionality, such as remembering your selected theme.

You can control or delete cookies and local storage through your browser settings. Browser privacy settings, extensions, or other privacy tools may also limit analytics collection.

5. Purchases and Licensing

Rulr Pro purchases are processed through Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the merchant of record for transactions.

Lemon Squeezy handles payment processing and related transaction matters such as payment information, taxes, invoices, refunds, fraud prevention, and chargebacks. Rulr does not receive or store your complete payment card information.

Information associated with your purchase or license may be processed as necessary to issue, activate, validate, support, or manage your Rulr Pro license.

Payment and transaction information handled by Lemon Squeezy is subject to Lemon Squeezy’s own privacy policy and terms.

6. Rule Gallery

The Rulr Rule Gallery contains Rules created and curated by Rulr.

You may browse and preview these Rules on the Rulr website and import supported Rules into the Rulr app. Once imported, a Gallery Rule is processed locally like other Rules you create or configure in Rulr.

The Rule Gallery does not currently allow users to publicly upload or publish their own Rules.

Some Gallery Rules may interact with third-party applications, websites, files, scripts, or services when you choose to configure and run them.

7. Support Communications

If you contact Rulr for support or another inquiry, information you voluntarily provide may be received and retained. This may include your email address, message content, screenshots, diagnostic information, or attachments you choose to send.

This information is used to respond to your request, troubleshoot problems, provide support, and improve Rulr where appropriate.

Please avoid sending sensitive information that is not necessary to resolve your issue.

Rulr does not sell or rent your personal information.

Information may be processed by service providers used to operate, analyze, diagnose, sell, or support Rulr. These currently include Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Bugsnag, Lemon Squeezy, and infrastructure providers used to operate the Rulr website.

These providers process information according to their own terms, privacy policies, and legal obligations.

Information may also be disclosed where reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law or valid legal process, or to protect the rights, security, and integrity of Rulr and its users.

9. Data Retention

Rulr retains information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including providing support, maintaining licenses, improving the product, resolving disputes, preventing abuse, and complying with legal obligations.

Information processed by third-party services may be retained according to their respective retention policies.

Rules and other locally stored Rulr data remain under your control on your Mac.

10. Data Security

Rulr uses reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information processed in connection with the app and website.

However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and absolute security cannot be guaranteed.

11. Your Choices and Rights

You can control many aspects of Rulr’s access to your Mac through macOS permissions, browser settings, network controls, and the Rules you choose to create and run.

Depending on where you live, applicable privacy laws may provide additional rights regarding personal information, such as rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict certain processing.

12. Children’s Privacy

Rulr is not specifically directed toward children. Rulr does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

13. Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated as Rulr evolves, including when features, services, or data practices change.

When changes are made, the updated Policy will be published on the Rulr website with a revised “Last updated” date.
